St. Mary's Church, located in Auburn, Kings County, is one of the oldest churches
in Nova Scotia, and was the second Anglican Church to be consecrated in British
North America. The Church was begun and completed in the year 1790 and was
consecrated on October 10 of that year by Charles Inglis, the first Bishop of Nova
Scotia. Through the years, St. Mary's has witnessed the passing of many
generations as well as great events in history, and has been able to maintain a
certain individuality and charm all its own.
The land on which St. Mary's stands was donated by James Morden, Esq., an
Englishman, Ordnance Storekeeper of the garrison at Halifax, and holder of one of
the largest of the early land grants of the Aylesford Township. The church was
